چکیده
Although many outlets are available for the utilization of wood fines, economical disposal of sawdust, shavings, and waste chips remains a problem of growing concern to the wood industry. This report summarizes current uses for wood residues and provides sources of further information on available outlets, processing methods, and economic considerations. Anaerobically Digested Bovine Biofiber as a Source of Fiber for Particleboard Manufacturing: an Economic Analysis
This paper explores the physical and economic potential to substitute anaerobically digested bovine biofiber (ADBF) for wood in the making of particleboard. Laboratory tests indicated that replacement of one-half the wood in particleboard with ADBF produced panels that compared favorably to the requirements for commercial particleboard performance (specified by ANSI Standard A208.1–1999). The e...
متن کاملBedding Alternatives and Windrowing Programs
Introduction Reports of bedding shortages in the poultry industry and escalating costs can be traced back more than 60 years. This situation has often occurred in the more concentrated broiler producing areas such as the Delmarva Peninsula and the Shenandoah Valley. With rising production capacity over the years the demand for bedding by poultry industry increased. At the same time there have b...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Rice Hulls, Sawdust, Wood Shavings and Mixture of Sawdust and Wood Shavings, and Their Usefulness According to the Pen Location for Hanwoo Cattle.
In this study, two experiments were conducted to investigate the physicochemical characteristics (Exp. I) of bedding materials such as rice hulls (RH), sawdust (SD), wood shavings (WS) and sawdust+wood shavings (S+W; 1:1 in volume), and utilization of these beddings except RH (Exp. II) for rearing beef cattle. In Exp. I, the distribution of particle size (%) with 250 μm and below 250 μm was gre...
متن کاملImprovement of sand using Portland cement and polystyrene foam container waste
The goal of this study was improvement of sandy soil using a combination of polystyrene foam container waste and Portland cement. For this purpose, Babolsar sand was used as the base soil. Strips of disposable polystyrene foam container waste in “chips” of 50 ´ 5 mm and 50 ´ 10 mm were added to the soil at 0.0%, 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3% by weight along with 3% Portland cement at a relative density o...
متن کاملBacterial Biodegradation of CCA-Treated Waste Wood
As wood treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA) is removed from service, methods for eliminating toxic metals from the wood are needed. CCA-tolerant bacteria were evaluated for their ability to modify CCA-treated wood. Aerobic bacteria were isolated from a 20-year-old test plot of CCA-treated stakes. Bacteria selected for their ability to grow on nutrient agar containing CCA components, we...
